The Power of Adaptability in Building Successful Businesses

I’ve spent most of my life as an entrepreneur, building several businesses up from the idea stage through to launch and eventual success. Today, I lead Shop Under, an online retail company based in Montreal that specializes in authentic luxury fashion from top designers like Prada, Tom Ford, and Dolce & Gabbana. Shop Under includes under its umbrella ZeeApparel, a brand offering stylish streetwear and activewear. While my retail business remains an important part of what I do, I now mainly focus on multi-residential real estate development. As the owner of multiple high-end rental properties in Montreal, Quebec, I’m dedicated to providing top-quality living spaces to my tenants.

Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of managing businesses in different parts of the world. These experiences have taught me a lot about the importance of adaptability, as each market has its unique challenges, from navigating tax codes to understanding customer preferences. But I’ve learned that no matter where you conduct business, people generally want the same things: quality, authenticity, and a consumer experience that’s pleasant, easygoing, and straightforward.

Understanding this fundamental truth about human nature has been central to the success of each of my businesses. Whether it’s selling luxury goods or providing top-tier rental properties, I stay focused on offering value that exceeds customer expectations. When I’m able to achieve this, I know I’ve earned both their loyalty and their trust, leading to stronger relationships, increased recommendations, and a sustainable business.

For instance, in the luxury fashion sector, customers value trust and authenticity, which is why we go the extra mile to verify that every product we sell at Shop Under is genuine and properly sourced. Similarly, in my real estate career, providing high-quality living spaces ensures that my tenants enjoy a premium experience. If I get feedback from prospective tenants that they need certain amenities or that they would like to have more flexible lease terms, I do everything within my power to accommodate them. In both cases, adapting my strategies to prioritize the desires of the customer has paid off.

As I continue to grow my businesses, one thing remains clear: adaptability is the magic key that unlocks sustained growth. Whether in the always-evolving world of online retail or the competitive landscape of Canadian real estate, staying open to new ideas and being flexible with changing markets is essential for long-term success. In the end, good business is about understanding people’s needs, being responsive, and always striving to meet and exceed expectations.
